育才学校的前身是基督教培贤女子神学院,始建于1920年。解放后,由市人民政府接管办起工农速成中学。1953年8月,改为广州市育才小学。1956年,育才小学与市立东区二小、东区八小、私立道青小学合并为保安街二小,后称寺贝通津小学。1960年9月,由市教育局指定进行十年一贯制试验,与市七中合为广州师院附属实验学校。1964年,复名寺贝通津小学。1986年9月开始在三至五年级开设体育班。1988年——1989年度先后招收小学和初中一年级体育生,并于1988年5月定名为“东山区育才体育运动实验学校”,后又定名为“东山区育才学校”。2001年被评为广州市一级学校。2003年2月,育才学校与育鹰小学、水均岗小学三所学校合并,搬迁到东风东路782号,保留了“东山区育才学校”的校名。

2013年3月26日上午,华南师范大学教育技术学院李克东教授、市电教馆管思梅主任等领导协同日本关西大学久保田贤一(Kenichi Kubota)教授、岸磨贵子(Makiko Kishi)博士、三宅喜久子(Mikuko Miyake)博士)莅临育才小学,观摩了育才小学与日本合作项目《增强小学生思维能力研究》的中期交流展示会。

   2013年3月7日下午,“广州市中小学智慧校园示范工程”的领导和专家在越秀区信息中心刘小莲主任的陪同下,对育才小学的“智慧校园”建设工作进行了调研。
  “广州市中小学智慧校园示范工程”调研小组的领导和专家首先观看了云山小学“智慧校园”建设的工作宣传片,然后听取了蔡文芳校长对“智慧校园”建设的总体工作思路和具体工作措施及取得的初步成效的汇报,最后认真查阅了相关资料和参观了校园的设施设备的建设、应用。会上,调研组专家——东北师大的钟绍春院长,对我校的“智慧校园”的工作思路和已取得的成绩给予了肯定,同时对我校在信息化建设,教科研的研讨也提出了明确的目标。

  ——育才小学开展中韩探究性学习交流活动
   2012年12月18日,云山小学迎来了一位特殊的客人——来自韩国的汉阳大学的权星湖教授。权星湖教授是韩国著名的信息化教育专家,本次是接受华南师范大学李克东教授的邀请来中国进行讲学,同时在李教授的的指引下莅临育才小学观摩和交流基于信息化平台的探究性学习。
  育才小学首先向权星湖教授展示了一节探究性学习课例《圆的周长》。在这节课上,学生在吴慧燕老师的引导下,利用数学学习软件和互联网资源围绕学习目标循序渐进地开展探究性学习,课堂把合作学习与自主学习有机结合,充分体现了信息技术对学习的辅导作用。整节课以学生为主体深入探究各个数学问题,学生们在探究、讨论、思考后得出结论,收获学习成果。权教授和李教授对老师的信息素养和学生的自主探究的学习表现给予了很高的评价。
